Pittsburg High School seniors: Get ready to apply for scholarships!
This year, more than 40 scholarships are available through the USD 250 Foundation to graduating seniors planning to attend a college/university, a community college, or a technology/vocational program.
Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Some have requirements such as a separate essay or involvement in specific activities.
The online scholarship application will be available at usd250foundation.org on Jan. 13. The due date is Feb. 12.
You can start getting ready now!
Gather all of the following information:
Your cell phone number, email address (preferably not PHS email), and address.
Your parent/guardian names and phone numbers.
Weighted and unweighted GPA.
Composite ACT score.
Anticipated college credits by high school graduation.
Career interests.
Be prepared to list the following from your 9th-12th grade years:
Clubs you have been a member of and if you held an office. Examples: GBL, Philosophy Club-President, Scouts.
Volunteer activities. Examples: Special Olympics, Lord's Diner, Blood Drive.
Co-curricular activities and honors received/offices held. Examples: Band, Forensics, Photojournalism, JAG, Encore, Theater.
Sports and honors received. Examples: Baseball, Softball, Archery, Football etc.
Work Experience. Examples: McDonalds, childcare, construction.
Be prepared with financial information:
List colleges/programs you plan to attend, the annual tuition and fees cost, annual room and board cost (if applicable). Example: PSU - $8,400 tuition and fees, $10,000 room and board, or "I plan to live at home."
Start working on the following, which you'll attach as PDF files:
General Essay, 250-400 words, 12-point type, double spaced. What are your interests and passions? What motivates you to pursue further college/technical education? What are your academic and/or career goals? Are there obstacles you need to overcome? Are you interested in specific scholarships and why?
PHS transcript. (Available from your PHS counselor).
Letter(s) of recommendation from a teacher/PHS employee or a community member other than your family.
Additional essay or letter, if requested.
Additional recommendation, if required.

Dates to remember:
Feb. 12 - On line applications due by midnight.
March 24 - Scholarship awardees notified by mail.
April 13 - USD 250 Foundation Pitzer Scholarship Reception (student/donor award ceremony.)
