Dragon students and families: Now is a great time to start preparing for college scholarship applications. The tips below, provided by the USD 250 Foundation, can help make the process easier and less stressful!
This year, more than 40 scholarships are available through the USD 250 Foundation to graduating seniors planning to attend a college/university, a community college, or a technology/vocational program.
Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Some have requirements such as a separate essay or involvement in specific activities.
The online scholarship application will be available at usd250foundation.org on Jan.6.The due date is Tuesday, Feb. 10, by midnight.
Start working on the following:
General Essay, 250-400 words. What are your interests and passions? How has participation in school activities (such as sports, theater, music) prepared you for your college career and beyond? What motivates you to pursue further college/technical education? What are your academic and/or career goals? Are there obstacles you need to overcome in order to achieve your goals? Please note: Some scholarships require specific essay questions to be answered; this will at least give you a good start!
Letter of recommendation from a teacher/PHS employee or a community member other than your family.
Photo taken your junior or senior year. Please have your face clearly visible and wear appropriate attire.
Be prepared to list the following from your high school years:
Clubs you have been a member of and if you held an office.
Volunteer activities. Examples: Special Olympics, Lord's Diner, Blood Drive.
Co-curricular activities and honors received/offices held.
Sports and honors received..
Work Experience.
Be prepared with financial information:
List colleges/programs you plan to attend, the annual tuition, fees, and room and board.
